Room 227, Sunday Afternoon
While Natalie was pretty sure there was weirdness afoot on the island, she hadn't bothered to even pay enough attention to figure out what it was. Fandom was wacky. She was content just knowing that.
Besides, finals week was coming up. This meant she was spending this Sunday going through her notes and checking everything was in order. There were a few textbooks and notebooks strewn around her on the bed, though there was more order to it than it might have seemed. (Of course there was order. This was Natalie.) Currently, her attention was on her American History notes.
It was her least favourite subject this time, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to be doing her best in the final.

She was a great conversationalist.

He still didn't know if they'd decided on anything.
"What's that mean? For you and me?"
no subject
"That we're not breaking up." That much was probably obvious. "That... I don't know, I guess we're going to try going long distance."
no subject
He was taking on her mantle of great conversationalist now.

Then she went back to eating her salad. Or at least poking at it.

So she was focusing on the salad. She was getting to keep her boyfriend. That was great.
Right?

But she hadn't wanted to do it with someone else in the past, and therein lay some insecurity.

With the way she was keeping it all down? Probably not.

She watched him for a moment, then said, "I love you." Another pause. The 'but' was only implied. "I've said no to long distance before."
no subject
That was easy to say.
"You said yes this time."
The question of 'why' was unasked.
no subject
More than she had the other guy, at least.

She could practically hear Jace mocking her already.
"It'll just be a little weird."

"Much better," she said, even though her tone was mild. "I've just gotten used to being able to --" She gave his hand a squeeze. "-- do this."
no subject
He gave her hand an answering squeeze.
" -- worth working hard for?"
no subject
She just squeezed his fingers with hers and didn't let go.
no subject
He kept his fingers laced with hers but looked away from her, down at his lap where he could hide any further reactions he had.
no subject
But she did shift a little closer to lean against his side. Something had to give a little.
