Room 223, Early Monday Evening

It was already the evening when Natalie made it back from Montreal. Leaving had been harder than it should have been, somehow. Being sure of the basics of how the world functioned provided a kind of comfort she couldn't help feeling. And maybe clinging to, just a little. It had been a good weekend, by her standards. Reading, music, a few walks around the city that happened to coincide with a phonecall or two back to Fandom.

And now she was here again. She'd dropped her bag on her bed and taken off her jacket, and right now... She was standing in the middle of the room, looking around and wondering whether there was room for a keyboard, and whether Tara would mind, and whether she'd actually play even if she did get one. Her parents had offered to pay for one, after an idle mention of having played something on the Fall Break. Privately, she thought they were offering mostly so she'd keep the skill up and keep playing songs for family at Christmas.

Regardless, she was considering it. She just wasn't coming to any sort of a conclusion.

"You probably crossed that line when we were making out at the bar," she replied with a flicker of a lopsided smile. "You're close enough."

"You just remember you started that," he said, laughing briefly. "Besides, we haven't done that in awhile. Maybe it was a fluke or something."

It hadn't been, no. He'd been thinking about that almost every day. At least once, almost every day, yes.

"Do you think it was a fluke?" Natalie wondered, tilting her head a little, as if she was genuinely wondering. She wasn't. "I doubt that."

She doubted it a whole lot, to be honest.

"It wasn't a fluke," he said confidently. Finally, he just decided to completely take the initiative by stepping forward and moving to wrap his arms around her waist. "This isn't a fluke either, if you were curious."

Natalie exhaled something that might have been a laugh as she let him get way into her personal space. "I didn't think it was," she replied, resting one hand on his houlder, the other on his arm. "I wasn't curious."

[necroslacker]

"Good," he said, giving her just the slightest hint of a smile while he stayed close to her. "I didn't want you to have any doubts. I don't. I thought maybe a bold gesture would help you out."

[whenshewasnice]

"Very helpful," she drawled, idly rubbing her thumb against his shoulder. "No doubts here."

[necroslacker]

"Okay," he said and actually gave into the urge to kiss her. But, in keeping with the unusual nature of their relationship, he leaned down to kiss the very corner of her eye.

It was still a kiss and it was a soft, lingering one but it wasn't the most normal of places to kiss someone.

No, it wasn't. And Natalie still found she liked it, eyes closed, lips twitching into a faint smile.

"Unusual," she noted, quietly.

Sam kept his lips near her temple and smiled slightly. "That a good thing or a bad thing?"

"Unusual is unusual," Natalie murmured, because she thought it was neutral by nature and wasn't a comment on anything else. She could make one, though. "But otherwise? This is good."

[necroslacker]

"Maybe I'll do it again sometime then," he mumbled, brushing his nose against her temple since it was there and all. "Guess you'll have to wait and see."

[whenshewasnice]

"Mm, guess so." She could live with that. Sliding her hand up along his arm. "Something to look forward to."

[necroslacker]

"Glad you think so," Sam replied, pulling back so he was able to see her. "That's a pretty good confidence booster for me too. It makes me wanna do it again."

[whenshewasnice]

"Good." Natalie smiled at him. It wasn't obvious, but it was there, and he was close and looking. And she was watching him again, now that she could see him again. "Proving this isn't a fluke."

[necroslacker]

"You gonna make me be the only one proving that this isn't a fluke?" Sam wondered, pushing some of her hair back behind her ear. "Gonna prove anything yourself?"

[whenshewasnice]

"Maybe." Oh, how wonderful it was to be noncommittal. Shh, she was busy letting her gaze wander over his face. "I might."

[necroslacker]

"You just let me know when you decide," he told her, stroking his thumb along her cheek before it journeyed down her shoulder and further down her arm very lightly.

Natalie didn't always feel like announcing her intentions like that, though. So, she said nothing, and after a moment of that, reached up to kiss him. But, it was quick and very, very light, a feather-light little peck against his lips.

Sometimes something like that was fun.

It was enough that Sam's eyes closed and he sighed after she'd kissed him. It definitely felt good.

"You should do that again," he murmured, eyes still closed. "That felt nice. Felt really nice."

Natalie made an amused little sound in the back of her throat, but didn't reply otherwise. Not in words, anyway. She stole a look at his face now that his eyes were closed, and then she did the oh so light kiss thing again.

And then once more because... she wanted to, and didn't need a reason beyond that.

No, she didn't need a reason beyond that. She could touch him and kiss him all she wanted as far as he was concerned.

"Okay, not a fluke. That's good proof," he decided, nodding. "Very, very good proof. I'm convinced even if I want that to happen again."

[whenshewasnice]

"That's the whole point of being convinced," Natalie murmured, a little amused and letting that be heard in her voice. "If you didn't want it to happen again that would mean it was a fluke."

[necroslacker]

"Oh." Well, he was distracted and that would be his excuse for any sort of stupidity he showed right now. "Does that mean you're gonna do it again?"

[whenshewasnice]

"Maybe." Well, she was going to do it again right now, in fact. And then again, more over one corner of his mouth. And then she lingered there, enjoying being close. "Yes."
