Room 223, Friday Afternoon

Natalie was not intending to leave her room today. Nope. Yesterday had been... a lot of things she didn't really feel like dealing with right now. And the way to not deal was to stay in her room. There was nothing cowardly about it. She just wasn't going to leave. Just for today.

Maybe the weekend.

Unable to really concentrate on any of her school stuff, she took a seat by her keyboard, intent on forcing herself to focus on something. Immersing herself into practice seemed to be a thing for that. And she was sticking to strictly classical pieces.

No pop. And no singing.

"We could analyze why you feel crappy about that," she quipped, but shifted a little, draping an arm over him for good measure. "We don't have to."

She didn't want to.

"Thank you," he murmured, not really wanting to put his stupidity under a microscope right now. "I'm not up for analyzing tonight."

"Fine, let's not analyze," she assured him with a sigh. "We can just do this. No analyzing. And no sex."

[necroslacker]

"Okay," he breathed, nodding and relaxing once again. "It'll feel right soon. I promise."

He just didn't want her thinking he didn't want that ever.

"Good." She curled her hand into his shirt and rested her cheek against his shoulder. "I don't think I'm at a point in my life where I want a platonic love affair."

She may have been mild-mannered for the most part, but still a teenager.

"I want to do that with you," Sam said quietly, feeling his cheeks heat up slightly at the admission. "I just -- I just want it to feel right all around."

[whenshewasnice]

Natalie sighed, softly. "You are annoyingly smart about it," she said, but didn't mean it in a bad way. It was a desireable quality in a boy his age and she knew that.

Almost idly, she added, "I should have waited for you."

That first statement made Sam chuckle a bit. It was good to know he could be smart about some things. Maybe he wasn't a lost cause.

"It's okay," he said even if that second statement didn't really need an answer. "I get why you didn't wanna wait. I understand. Any other circumstance, you wouldn't have had to wait, you know. The...want, that's there. It's there."

After a pause, Natalie just barely shook her head against his shoulder. "I didn't mean right now."

Would she explain that? Only time would tell.

[necroslacker]

"Oh."

Well yes, now he was confused. He didn't know if she'd elaborate but he couldn't stop himself from asking.

"What'd you mean, then?"

[whenshewasnice]

"In general."

Was that helpful? Did she care?

"Well, not that general."

[necroslacker]

"You haven't really known me for that long," Sam pointed out, thinking he understood what she meant. "How could you know to wait?"

[whenshewasnice]

Natalie glanced up at him. "Well, I could've waited for someone like you," she replied, with a ghost of an amused look. "But that's not as nice to say."

[necroslacker]

"You really think there's someone else out there like me?" Sam wondered. He thought he was pretty...unique.

[whenshewasnice]

She snorted. "Nice guys who care about wrong reasons for doing things? I've heard they exist, yes."

[necroslacker]

He barely stopped himself from arguing the whole nice thing. The words were almost out of his mouth but he pulled them back this time.

"So they do," he said instead, nodding. "Well. Lucky me that you didn't have to wait too long."

[whenshewasnice]

"Point was that I didn't wait," Natalie replied, wondering to herself how much he'd wanted to argue with 'nice'. "But what's done is done. The future is unknown. And other cliches."

[necroslacker]

"And I'm here now." He didn't know what else to say so he said that. He was there now and things weren't bad.

[whenshewasnice]

"You are," she agreed. And things were not bad, as much as she still felt a little twitchy. It would take a while to fade, but it would. "You are here."

[necroslacker]

"Yep. I am."

Those words weren't necessary but they came out anyway. After that, Sam did fall silent and let that lengthen comfortably.

Natalie had no problem with that. She even closed her eyes and just... breathed.

Maybe after a while of that, she'd even relax a little more. She wasn't sure that was going to happen, but she knew he increased her chances of that.

And that was enough.
