Room 227, Late Friday Afternoon

Natalie was pretty fed up with today's weirdness already. And she was a shut-in, as a result – well, mostly. Her door was cracked, because Moxy had decided this was a day for wanting to wander back and forth between the room and the hallway. But Natalie herself was staying put on her bed now, trying to focus on reading and not think about any weirdness or annoyance.

Although of course, even being alone hadn't entirely stopped the singing from happening. And her distracted thoughts wandered, and before she knew it, her lips were moving again.

"Olly olly oxen free, all the people you will never be..."

Sigh.

[ooc: Posted expecting a certain massively SP'd thread, but the post is open, the door is cracked, and the girl is wary but can carry a tune like whoa!]

It was probably fortunate that Jim had pretty much just woken up and hadn't had to deal with anything but yawning and silence. He'd laid around in bed for awhile before finally getting up and crossing the hall when he noticed Natalie's door was cracked.

He knocked on the door and then pushed it open. "Anyone alive in here?"

Natalie looked up, a wary expression still on her face. "Really not sure if this is a good time for a visit."

But at least she got to say that without singing.

"So, I should go away?" Jim asked, tilting his head at her. "Haven't heard that sentiment in awhile."

She shrugged a shoulder, half apologetic. "It's a Fandom thing."

They were tightrope walkers in their conversations at the best of times. She wasn't sure whether adding this particular weirdness to it was the greatest idea.

But she also kind of really wanted a hug or something.

"I'm not gonna hang out if you don't want me around," Jim told her honestly. "So, yes or no?"

It was never as simple as just a yes or a no.

And even less so when Fandom got it's way. Singing it was, then. She took solace in the fact that at least she could carry a tune and had the voice for this, even as she rolled her eyes at it. "Everybody sees me, but it's not that easy, standing in the light field, standing in the light field; waiting for some action, waiting for some action, oh but why won't you come over here?"

"You could have just asked," Jim said, raising an eyebrow at the singing and chancing moving closer to her despite the earlier statements.

"This the Fandom thing you're talking about or are you just experimenting with new methods of communication?"

Just wait till you started singing, Jim. Laugh it up.

The dry look Natalie gave her as she put her book down agreed with that last bit of his narrative.

"The former."

"How fun for you."

Jim wasn't too worried that it was going to affect him since it hadn't yet (it would, though).

"Did you want me to come over here?" he asked, standing in front of her now.

Natalie kept her mouth shut and patted the space next to her on the bed.

And tried not to feel stupidly grateful for not being forced to sing anything about that.

Jim smirked and sat down beside her. He kept his mouth shut too since she hadn't said anything.

And Natalie leaned over to kiss his cheek. As if by keeping her lips otherwise occupied with little touches, she could keep the singing at bay.

It was not going to work and she knew it. But a girl could dream.

Jim smiled at the kiss and turned to glance over at her. And then, yeah, she was going to have company in the land of weirdness.

"I've seen my magic work you're losing your religion, and I want you to understand that I can make you feel better."

Jim stopped singing and raised an eyebrow at himself and that bit of singing.

Natalie raised her eyebrows back at him. Yeah, he wasn't immune, no surprise there.

"How did you get that way? I don't know. You're screwed up, you're brilliant, you look like a million dollar man."

And singing caused more singing. Great.

"Million dollar man, really?" Jim asked, momentarily forgetting that he'd just sung to her. "Thank you."

He smiled at her and went to stop talking but, of course, something else slipped out. "This ain't no sham. I am what I am. I leaven no time for a cynic's mind."

"But I get torn to pieces, for the stupidest reasons," Natalie replied, in song, before going to try and kiss him again. Mostly to shut herself up, even if it was just for a second or two.

"What reasons?" Jim managed to mumble around the kiss. At least he hadn't done any singing there so maybe she had the right idea when it came to keeping your mouth busy.

"Don't ask," Natalie mumbled, as if it helped. It didn't. "I forfeit, I cannot build a river across it, I cannot hold my own heart hostage, I do not have the strength to gag myself in every closet."

With the words flowing out, she stopped trying to kiss him while they were coming. Hovered close to him anyway.

"The wrong place, wrong mind, timing's always bad, I'm such a sad case, misplaced renaissance inventor of a worldwide heartbreak, taking it in stride 'cause I'm an expert, aren't I?"

Hearing her sing from such a close proximity was nice. She had a great voice and, though he figured she didn't like being so open about herself (even if it was in song), he was listening closely and storing all the information away.

"Won't do me no good, washing in the river. Can't no preacher man save my soul."

He didn't have as great a singing voice as her and he didn't want to be singing stuff like that so he scowled.

Natalie shook her head, tried shifting closer and burying her face against his shoulder. "Olly olly oxen free, all the people we will never be."

Great, she seemed to have picked up a leitmotif phrase for the day.

"It's not that big a deal," Jim told her, looking down at where her face was pressed against his shoulder. "Seriously. Just words."

Natalie kept her head right where it was. "Words come to me so easily. They make me forget what I mean, they seem so very unsound when I don't want them around."

"Is that a bad thing? Words coming to you easily?" he asked, still looking down at her. He was waiting for his next bout of singing and just talking to her while he could.

"Don't take things so literally."

Even when they kind of were.

"How should I be taking things?" Jim asked since she'd brought it up. "Everybody lets you down in this grief hole of a town. Born a different soul rushing out. Tell me what you're running from."

That made him scowl again and rub his hand over his face. "Just words," he sighed.
