A Very Nice Suite, Arms Hotel, Sunday Morning

Envy was exactly the sort of extra to have had the suite specially decorated by the team in a way that brought the theming of both the ceremony and the party together in a pleasing way, really tying the whole day together when they'd finally retreated back to the hotel.

Not that Envy, at least, had had even half a mind to appreciate it all much at all, last night. The day had been long, much longer than she'd anticipated. Not really in the sense of the hours, although those had also been many, but the...

Well.

Look, turned out getting married, even to your extremely steady significant other after years of engagement, was actually a pretty emotional thing to do. And with everything else that had been packed into the day, including all the off-screen stuff like photos and little interview snippets and God knows what else?

Yeah, she'd passed out hard and fast after getting to the room and getting out of her second dress of the evening. And you know what? Even as she was slowly drifting back awake, she had no regrets.

About any part of it.

"I talked to Karla," Peter said. "She's 40 now, has a bunch of kids... and she thinks of her time here as 'the most vivid of her life'."

He let his fingers trail along her arm. "Imagine feeling like that. What a waste."

Envy made a soft scoffing noise. "We were kids," she said. "Was that supposed to be the most interesting part of our lives?"

"It's funny," Peter said. "I spent what felt like a lifetime trying to pretend I wasn't intimidated by her. This might have been the first time I actually wasn't."

"That's growth, baby."

A little bit joking, but not entirely.

"I, of course, still have no idea if I should remember her from high school or not."

Peter snorted. "You didn't miss much," he said. "She was very loud and very dramatic and liked to storm cackling down the hallways."

He pressed another kiss to her mouth, just because he could.

"The idea of valuing your high school career so highly... shit, I was eager to get out of here. I took the only parts of it that mattered with me."

Envy's fingers brushed their way further into his hair.

"You didn't even graduate," she noted, on another soft snort. "Really made your point, there."

"And look how far a high school dropout can get in the world," Peter said jovially. Leaning into her touch. "I'm aspirational."

[whenshewasnice]

"And yet we are not turning that into the next 'look how the Hegemon is a man of the people' thing."

[lockestheway]

Peter laughed. "I promise not to focus test anything during the honeymoon, at least."

[whenshewasnice]

"I'm going to kick you off the honeymoon," Envy informed him in a drawl, "if you don't put your energy towards testing what just your wife might like."

And, oh. That felt new and weird and good to say.

"Mmm," Peter said, lifting his chin. "Does my wife have any suggestions of her own?"

Envy's smile went wider and warmer whether she wanted it to or not.

(No one here to see it but him, so no reason to hide.)

Then she smirked. "Oh, plenty, I'm sure."

"Because I am open," Peter said, propping his head up on his arm, "To her every word."

[whenshewasnice]

"Damn right you are," Envy replied, her fingers sliding out of his hair to instead brush along the side of his face. Temple, cheek, jaw. "You know, might be a few things we didn't get to last night..."

"A lot of things, if I recall correctly," Peter said, his eyes involuntarily trying to follow the movements of her fingers.

They seemed rather important, all of a sudden.

Too bad the fingers got a little harder to see now, traveling over his chin to dip to his neck.

"'I got married to the Hegemon and all I got was the way I passed out cold ASAP'," Envy joked in a drawl, watching his face instead. "Didn't even get handsy. Or mouthy."

[lockestheway]

"Well, you got a little mouthy," Peter murmured. "Just not in a way that involves anyone's pants coming off, which... was an oversight."

His own fingers slid further down her arm, up towards her shoulder.

"No it wasn't," Envy retorted, dragging a couple of nails over his collarbone. "Rest is important."

[lockestheway]

"Good counter-argument," Peter said.

His fingers moved onto her side, along her waist.

[whenshewasnice]

"Thanks, I've had a good partner to spar with," Envy quipped in return, watching her hand move along his chest.

[lockestheway]

"So I owe Suri a raise?" Peter said innocently.

And onto her hip.

[whenshewasnice]

Envy snorted. "Most likely," she drawled. "Just not for this."

[lockestheway]

And, ah. There was the swell of her ass, nice and firm in his hand. "But," he said, "Done with rest?"

[whenshewasnice]

"Did you just touch my ass and say 'butt' like you're a kindergartener naming things?"

Of course the kicker here was that Envy could actually tell which spelling he'd meant and was just being a pain for the hell of it.

"Okay," Peter said, frowning at her, "Now that assumption is offensive. My butt jokes are much better than that."
