Room 223, Monday Afternoon

Natalie had survived her first Fandom High Parents Weekend. It really wasn't much of an accomplishment when she hadn't had any guests of her own, but whatever. She gathered it was still some kind of a landmark, even if she'd spent the majority of it just reading and watching stuff on her own. She just liked it better that way.

And hey, she'd still managed to get what she supposed was a variation of the 'if you hurt him' speech from Sam's friends, so that was something.

But now it was Monday, and it was time to get back into gear. And for Natalie, this meant sitting on her bed with a cup of coffee, studying German from the book in front of her.

She led such an exciting life.

"I sleep." She refrained from pointing out he'd even seen that, because that was a Fandom thing and didn't really count. "And my brain has been fine so far. What can I say? It likes learning, and I like being on my own, so we work well together."

"That a subtle way of saying you want me to leave?" Sam asked, pushing his hands into his pockets and tilting his head. "I can. Got nothing going on but I've always been good at finding stuff to do."

"That was a generality," Natalie replied, mirroring his headtilt in a rather gentle act of mocking him. "I would tell you if I wanted you to leave."

"Hey, maybe you were having a shy day," Sam said, giving her a brief half smile for that mocking. "You didn't want to hurt my feelings by being blunt so you went the subtle route."

"Are you trying to justify my potential reasoning into something that doesn't make me sound like an utter bitch?" she asked, amused. "How sweet."

[necroslacker]

"Yeah, I'm so sweet I'll rot your teeth out," he quipped, shaking his head. "But, if you ever decide you wanna be mean, you should know that my feelings can take it, bitch or not. I'm tough."

"I'm sure," Natalie drawled, then shook her head. "But I think you can stay for now."

"Thanks," he said and took that as an invite to walk further into her room. He glanced around, taking it in before he came to stand beside her bed, knees bumping against the mattress.

"How're things going?" he asked, giving her book another once over. "Quiet and full of education?"

"Quiet and full of education," Natalie agreed with a small nod. She raised her mug a bit, too. "And hot beverages. Normal Monday."

It was normal for any day of the week, really.

"Mmm." Sam thought he'd get bored but he knew by now this was kind of her thing. Still, he couldn't help making a brief face at her activities. "And here I thought you'd be throwing wild parties and dancing on tabletops."

"No." Just no. She didn't dance and most parties were boring. "I'm sure there are places you can go to see that, though," she added with a somewhat amused eyebrow raise, before sipping some more from her mug.

"Oh, you know what, that's where I was headed!" Sam said like he'd just had an epiphany. "It's Monday and what better way to start a week off than with a trip to a strip club."

That wasn't really his thing, no. That wasn't even Ramon's thing. "What would I do without you to set me straight? Guess that means I'll be going to stuff dollar bills in places that probably haven't been washed in awhile."

The corners of Natalie's mouth twitched a little. Upwards. She tried to hide that by picking her book up with her coffee-free hand so she could slide it onto her bedside table. "Gross, you wouldn't even go to a classy club with hygiene-conscious strippers?"

"Classy club?" Sam repeated, raising an eyebrow at that one. He pretended to think about that one before shrugging a shoulder. "Yeah, I could get with that. Got any recommendations? You seem pretty clued in to the stripper scene."

Natalie rolled her eyes. "No, I think I prefer to keep my favourites to myself," she drawled. "You know how it is when things get too popular."

[necroslacker]

"You just admitted that you haunted strip clubs," Sam pointed out, shaking his head sadly. "My vision of you is just...destroyed. Now, what should I do? Is it time to turn to religion?"

[whenshewasnice]

"Yes," Natalie replied without missing a beat. "I'm sure you would make an excellent little Catholic boy."

[necroslacker]

"I'm sensing some sarcasm in that tone of yours," Sam noted, rubbing his chin. "You don't think me and religion would be a match made in heaven?"

[whenshewasnice]

"Well I hope not," Natalie said, and that happened to actually be honest. "I think it might turn my world uoside down and nothing would make sense."

That part wasn't.

[necroslacker]

"You hope not?" Sam asked, a little curious about that answer. "What would be so bad if I happened to find religion and slap a halo over my head? I think I'd look pretty good with a halo. It'd twinkle and maybe some angelic theme music would play too."

She shrugged. "I'm not arguing that part of it." Because the mental image was an amusing one. "But I'm science-minded. I don't mind religion but I can't really relate."

"Atheist?" he asked curiously. "Or, uh, the other one where you believe there's something there but don't believe in it? That one?"

[whenshewasnice]

"I believe the word you're looking for there is agnostic, although I'm pretty sure that's not the actual definition," Natalie replied mildly, then shrugged. "But, yeah, atheist, I guess."

That was some new information though Sam figured he could have come to that conclusion if he'd thought long enough. She did seem grounded in proof and facts.

"Has it been that way for most of your life?" he asked curiously. "No beliefs in miracles and the supernatural?"

"Not since Santa Claus," Natalie replied with another shrug. She put her now emprty mug away, then leaned back on her hands a little. "Nothing much after that."

Of course, he should've probably kept in mind that she found things like people turning into coins upon being defeated more or less normal and natural.
