Room 223, Sunday Noon

Natalie's Sunday mornings and afternoons tended to be the same every week, when there wasn't any weirdness afoot. She got up earlier than most, got coffee, and then either wandered somewhere else in the dorms (generally either Sam's room or the roof), or came back to her own room where she sat down and read something.

This Sunday was no different. She sat cross-legged on her bed, a book in her lap, occasionally eating a piece of candy or two from the bag beside her. The Petey Sci-Fi soundtrack played on in the background at a moderate volume, and every once in a while she hummed along.

A day like this didn't need much more than that.

"I'm sure that can be arranged," Natalie said, as she gave his fingers a very light squeeze. "And if all else fails, we can leave early."

She had very little regard for any kind of social decorum about staying at an event a certain amount of time to seem interested.

"Gonna do my best to show you a good time," Sam promised, nodding. "And I'm still not defining interesting. If you want, you can tell me what it means and maybe I'll tell you if you're right or not."

"You're a teenaged boy," Natalie pointed out. "So, interesting in relation to dreams about the girl you're dating is probably likely to be naked in nature. Or sensual or something."

She had such a scientific take on it.

"Man, that's so clinical," Sam said, sliding down in her bed and trying not to blush. "You've ruined my dreams."

Natalie chuckled, quietly, and gave his hand a squeeze. "I did ask you to define it yourself."

He only had himself to blame.

[necroslacker]

"I know, I know, but I didn't think you'd be so scientific and analytical about it," Sam murmured, covering his face with his free hand.

Natalie kept looking on, amused. "Why not?"

Wasn't she exactly like that about a lot of things?

[necroslacker]

"Because it's....that kind of thing," Sam said, shaking his head. "It's about our relationship. I thought you'd be a little...more casual?"

[whenshewasnice]

"Guess I don't do casual." Sadly that was kind of true, light as it was. "Are you embarrassed now?"

[necroslacker]

"Sort of," he admitted, nodding. She wasn't wrong about what his dreams were about but he was all distracted now.

[whenshewasnice]

"You're so lame." Did that help? It wasn't supposed to. "I didn't even know you slept enough to have dreams."

[necroslacker]

"I sleep sometimes," Sam told her, laughing quietly. "And I'd rather have those type of dreams then nightmares or anything like that. You don't dream about me or anything?"

[whenshewasnice]

"I don't have a lot of dreams." For the most part, anyway. Sometimes her brain went into enough of an overload to want to provide visuals she could actually remember once she woke up. "But sometimes you're there, yeah."

[necroslacker]

"And, let me guess, I'm...reading?" She seemed to be the type not to have those typical teenager dreams about her boyfriend so he went that way.

[whenshewasnice]

"Sometimes." That wasn't even a lie or a joke! Hey, reading was a major part of her life. It kind of made its way into everything. "Sometimes other things."

[necroslacker]

"Define other things," Sam asked, smiling as he did because did a question like that sound so familiar?

[whenshewasnice]

Yes, yes it did. Natalie rolled her eyes, but in a tolerant way. "Things that are other. Not reading."

And she called him a tease. Tsk.

"And what other things am I sometimes doing?" Sam asked, going about it a different way even if he wasn't sure it'd help.

[whenshewasnice]

"What other things do you think you might be doing?" Natalie countered. "Guess and maybe I'll tell you if you're right."

Familiar, familiar.

[necroslacker]

"I don't know what else I might be doing which is why I need your help in figuring it out," Sam tried. "I'm not good at the guessing game like you are."

[whenshewasnice]

"Lame." It was the word of the day. "Okay. Sometimes there are candlelit dinners."

Which was actually more of a confession for her than saying anything about how underneath all her mild ways there was still a teenager who sometimes had dreams about skin on skin.

[necroslacker]

"Candlelit dinners?" That was an interesting confession. He smiled over at her and gave her hand a little squeeze. "I don't cook these dinners, do I? That might turn the dream into a nightmare."

[whenshewasnice]

"Dreams don't work on real world logic," Natalie replied, looking down to hide whatever borderline coyness might have crossed her face. "Doubt there's much actual cooking involved."

[necroslacker]

"Not much cooking involved?" Sam repeated, leaning over towards her to press a few kisses against her jaw. His voice was pressed against her skin when he said, "What's going on instead?"

"Dinner. Duh." It was meant to sound a little more... eyeroll-y, but she ended up sighing softly. Oh well. "I meant I don't dream of anyone cooking, or bout who cooked the food. The food's irrelevant."
