Room 223, Sunday Noon

Natalie's Sunday mornings and afternoons tended to be the same every week, when there wasn't any weirdness afoot. She got up earlier than most, got coffee, and then either wandered somewhere else in the dorms (generally either Sam's room or the roof), or came back to her own room where she sat down and read something.

This Sunday was no different. She sat cross-legged on her bed, a book in her lap, occasionally eating a piece of candy or two from the bag beside her. The Petey Sci-Fi soundtrack played on in the background at a moderate volume, and every once in a while she hummed along.

A day like this didn't need much more than that.

"No reason," Natalie agreed, even though she thought there might be a few. She just didn't always want to get too deep into things. "How's your Sunday so far?"

"Eh. I didn't sleep and I had some breakfast around three in the morning and then I didn't sleep some more and now I'm here," Sam told her. "So, it's getting better."

"I rate above middle-of-the-night breakfast?"

It was a joke. Or an attempt at one. To lighten the mood.

"Good."

"You rate above a lot of things," he said quietly, shrugging a shoulder.

[whenshewasnice]

"Such as?" she prompted, beckoning him closer with just the slightest, missable movement of her hand. She didn't like being too obvious about things, sometimes.

[necroslacker]

"Such as skateboarding, sleeping, rock music on record players and comfortable t-shirts," Sam said, stepping back closer to her again.

Natalie looked amused. "Even comfortable t-shirts?" she asked, as she kept beckoning him closer. Hey, there was room on the bed. So took up very little of it. "Such nice things."

"You're pretty comfortable too," Sam said, sliding onto the bed and stretching his legs out. "I can deal without comfortable t-shirts if you're around."

"This would probably be a good time for a joke about shirtlessness," Natalie quipped, "but I'm out of those."

[necroslacker]

"I didn't even know you had shirtless jokes in the first place," Sam replied, shaking his head. "That's downright naughty of you."

[whenshewasnice]

"Well, there are a lot of things in my head you're not privy to." Which was no surprise by now. She scooted closer to him. "Some of it is shirtless jokes."

"Can I be privy to one thing?" Sam asked, slanting what he hoped was a charming, soft smile at her. "Just one? You tell me, I'll tell you."

Natalie exhaled a quiet, quiet laugh. "Is that supposed to be a charming smile?" she wondered, like a cheating cheater who read narrative. "Are you trying to charm me into sharing?"

[necroslacker]

"Just one thing," Sam said, dissolving into a laugh at her calling him out like that. "I'm asking you to share."

[whenshewasnice]

"Okay," Natalie snorted. She tilted her head to the side, pausing as she wondered what to say. "Well. I like your laugh."

That one may have been a pretty immediate thought.

"My laugh?" Sam asked, sounding a little surprised. It wasn't that he didn't think she was observant, he just hadn't realized she liked that. "Huh. I like yours too when it so rarely comes out."

"Life's not a laughing matter, Samhain." A beat. "I like your name, too."

She was pretty sure he wondered about that sometimes.

"It's not obvious. In any way. I like that."

[necroslacker]

"Sometimes, it's all right to laugh at your life," Sam retorted before shaking his head. "And yeah, I've noticed that you tend to use the full version more than anyone else. My mom'll be glad to here someone likes it."

"It's a good name," Natalie shrugged. "It's fascinating." Plus she liked the difference between the spelling and the pronunciation. It was especially fun in a text-based medium.

She was a geek.

"There, you're privy to some things."

[necroslacker]

"Thanks," Sam said, laughing and leaning back a little more against her pillows. "Never heard my name talked about like that. Good to be privy to some things."

Natalie reached out to tap a finger against his chin. "I think you owe me something now."

[necroslacker]

"But, I'm an open book," he said, knowing very well that wasn't true. He did dip his head down to try and kiss her finger though. "You know everything."

[whenshewasnice]

"No, I don't," she replied, pulling her finger away from his reach, wiggling it at him from a safe distance. Occasionally she could muster up a bit of playfulness. "You still owe me something."

[necroslacker]

"Okay, okay, hmmm." What was something good to make her privy to? "I've had some...interesting and if you ask me what my definition of interesting is, I'm going to sue you, dreams about you since we started dating."

Oh, come on. That bit in the middle deserved a faint smirk (rather than getting coy over the rest, shut up). "Define interesting." A beat. "Your case would not hold up in court."
