Room 223, Sunday Noon

Natalie's Sunday mornings and afternoons tended to be the same every week, when there wasn't any weirdness afoot. She got up earlier than most, got coffee, and then either wandered somewhere else in the dorms (generally either Sam's room or the roof), or came back to her own room where she sat down and read something.

This Sunday was no different. She sat cross-legged on her bed, a book in her lap, occasionally eating a piece of candy or two from the bag beside her. The Petey Sci-Fi soundtrack played on in the background at a moderate volume, and every once in a while she hummed along.

A day like this didn't need much more than that.

"I'm saying there isn't a typical relationship," she replied with a slow shake of her head. "No comment on normal."

[necroslacker]

"Ah." Well, that made sense. "Okay, so my last relationship was completely abnormal and weird. Just in case there's a sliding scale here."

"This was that... Brid girl right?" Natalie checked, because she remembered things. Like an impatient voice in her ear when she'd been a child for a weekend and picked up a call for him.

"Yeah," Sam said, looking thoughtful for a second or two. "That was her. We're still friends so I guess that's a good thing."

He wasn't sure on that either.

"Brid's, uh, she's...one of those things you don't really believe in."

Of course she was.

Natalie kept her thoughts on that to herself. Not much changed in her expression.

"And which kind is she, then?"

[necroslacker]

"She's a hybrid," Sam said, hoping Brid didn't kill him for this reveal but she was all the way across the country so he didn't think she'd find out. "Werewolf and fairy."

Yep. Brid had some special genes there.

Okay, even Natalie had to blink at that. "Fairy?"

Werewolf she was okay with. Fairy was just ridiculous.

"I don't know how it works. It's what she is though," Sam said, shrugging. "She's not the only hybrid though. Apparently werewolves can be mixed up with all kinds of animals."

Like bears. Poor Ramon.

"Uh huh." Yeah, being unfamiliar with that kind of thing was making Natalie appear mostly just a little sceptic, though sceptic towards what exactly, who knew.

It was better than focusing on my boyfriend's ex is part fairy because that would just be a source of mild, pointless insecurity. "Your world is weird."

"Yeah, I guess," Sam conceded, shrugging. "Maybe I'll invite her to visit sometime just to see if that look of skepticism stays on your face."

Because that'd go well and all.

Well, that was a comment that could chnage her expression. Into one with an eyeroll.

She didn't see something like that going well, no.

"What?" Hey, sometimes Sam wasn't that smart. "You wouldn't wanna meet her?"

Stop being dumb, Sam. Friends or not, she was still an ex and all.

Natalie quirked an eyebrow at him. "You don't see a problem with that?"

Seriously?

Sam shifted a little uncomfortably and shrugged.

"I'm just trying to be open with you," Sam said and that was honesty even if he knew it sounded stupid. "She's my friend and all and she's around so I just wanted to be open about it."

[whenshewasnice]

Natalie mirrored his shrug. "There's being honest, and then there's sounding like you don't understand the inherent problems in your girlfriend meeting your previous girlfriend," she pointed out.

[necroslacker]

"Okay, okay, I got it," Sam said, shrugging uncomfortably and taking a few steps back from her head now. "I didn't realize."

Which meant he didn't really understand mostly because he wasn't a great boyfriend.

Natalie's other eyebrow climbed up to join the first one as she watched him step away.

"Well, do you realize it now?"

Or was he just going to run away? ... Not that Natalie and her brick wall tendencies could judge.

"I never said I was good at this," Sam answered, shrugging. "It's not a big deal. I'll do my best not to bring it up again."

Maybe it was the way she was drawn, but Natalie could express a lot with her eyebrows.

They settled down into a frown. "Wouldn't it be better if you actually understood what it was about?"

[necroslacker]

"If you wanna tell me, I'm not gonna stop you," Sam sighed, refusing to look at her when she was looking at him that way. "Go ahead."

[whenshewasnice]

"Girlfriends get jealous," Natalie replied, a little more quietly. But still watching him. "Former ones included. It's weird for them to meet."

[necroslacker]

"Yeah, I get that," he said because he did. "I just, I don't know, I just wanted to assure you I don't have feelings for her that way anymore. We're still friends and I didn't want you to worry or anything."

[whenshewasnice]

"I'm still not looking forward to meeting her," Natalie admitted, lifting a shoulder in a shrug. "But I'm not worried."

She was here. Brid was not.

[necroslacker]

Well, she was doing a little better than him because he was worried about that one guy that he was trying not to bring up.

"I'm not gonna be inviting her anytime soon," Sam replied, shrugging. "So, that might not even happen. No reason to even think about it."

"No reason," Natalie agreed, even though she thought there might be a few. She just didn't always want to get too deep into things. "How's your Sunday so far?"
